The Pittsburgh Penguins are bolstering their NHL roster by recalling two promising young forwards from their AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Rutger McGroarty and Ville Koivunen have been called up from the AHL after Wilkes-Barre/Scranton secured a playoff berth. In a corresponding move, forward Joona Koppanen has been reassigned to the AHL.
McGroarty, a former first-round pick, has been productive in the AHL, scoring 14 goals and 39 points in 60 games. He has also played three NHL games this season but is still seeking his first NHL point.
Koivunen, who leads all AHL rookies with 21 goals and 55 points, is also getting his chance with Pittsburgh. He was acquired by the Penguins in the Jake Guentzel trade.
