Pereira: “I Wanted to Turn Down the Fight with Ankalaev”

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has spoken about fighting Magomed Ankalaev with a fractured hand.

At UFC 313 on March 9th, Pereira suffered a unanimous decision loss to Ankalaev, losing his championship title.

Pereira told Ariel Helwani, “I`m not trying to diminish Ankalaev`s accomplishments. Many people try to do that, but that`s not who I am. Everyone has issues, and I`m sure he did too. Yes, I had my own difficulties – my hand is recovering now, but it did affect me. However, I don`t want to use it as an excuse. My time will come, and when I win the belt again, I will discuss everything. Yes, I considered backing out of the fight. It was one of the toughest training camps because of everything that happened.”
