Raducanu Advances to Miami Quarterfinals in Strong Form

MIAMI — Emma Raducanu, forever remembered for her remarkable 2021 US Open victory as a qualifier at a young age, is demonstrating her resilience and determination to forge a new chapter in her career.

After overcoming a series of injuries in the past three and a half years, the 22-year-old is making a strong statement at the 2025 Miami Open.

The British player`s unexpected journey in the tournament continued on Monday with a decisive 6-1, 6-3 win against No. 17 seed Amanda Anisimova. This victory propels her into her first-ever WTA 1000 quarterfinal, where she is set to compete against the winner of the match between No. 4 Jessica Pegula and No. 23 Marta Kostyuk.

Raducanu`s dominant performance in her recent matches is evident, having won an impressive 24 out of 29 games, including a match where McCartney Kessler retired in the second set.

In her Round of 16 match on Monday, Raducanu displayed greater efficiency than her opponent, maintaining an equal balance of eight winners and eight unforced errors. In contrast, Anisimova recorded 12 winners but struggled with 37 unforced errors. The match concluded swiftly in just 69 minutes.

This marks only the second time in Raducanu`s career that she has secured four consecutive main-draw victories on the WTA Tour. The first instance was her phenomenal US Open run, where she achieved seven consecutive wins in the main draw, and ten including qualifying rounds.

Anisimova is also experiencing a career resurgence. After finishing 2024 ranked No. 36, she won a title at the Doha WTA 1000 event, significantly boosting her trajectory. She entered the Miami Open with an 11-4 record for the year and had reached a career-high ranking of No. 17.

With impressive victories over Anisimova and No. 8 seed Emma Navarro, Raducanu has now defeated two Top 20 players in the same tournament for the second time in her career. The first time was her unforgettable US Open campaign, where she defeated Belinda Bencic and Maria Sakkari on her path to the title.
