Veteran mixed martial artist Yoel Romero recently shared his opinion on former UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria`s potential transition to the lightweight division.
Romero commented on his podcast: “Topuria was exceptionally strong at featherweight, and I believe he will be practically unbeatable in the lightweight class. He reportedly walks around at 82 kg between fights. Think about it: if he can manage to cut down to 66 kg for featherweight and then rehydrate, how powerful will he be competing at 70 kg (lightweight) while retaining his speed, reflexes, and endurance? Ilia`s time has arrived. He will be an incredibly challenging opponent to overcome in the lightweight category.”
In related news, Topuria recently announced that he has begun his training camp. While not officially confirmed, rumors circulating suggest he is expected to compete at UFC 317, which is reportedly scheduled to take place in Las Vegas towards the end of June.
