Sabres edge Senators on Thompson’s third-period winner

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Tage Thompson scored the go-ahead goal 1:23 into the third period, securing the Buffalo Sabres` 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night. This win marked a significant milestone for Lindy Ruff, who became only the second coach in NHL history to achieve 600 wins with a single franchise.

Jack Quinn and Jacob Bernard-Docker also contributed to Buffalo`s score, while goalie James Reimer stood strong, stopping 30 shots and earning his first set of consecutive wins this season. Lindy Ruff, currently in his first season of his return to Buffalo, now holds a 600-467-90 record with the Sabres, alongside 78 ties.

In the realm of NHL coaching records, Ruff is surpassed only by Al Arbour, who boasts an impressive 740 wins with the New York Islanders.

For the Senators, Brady Tkachuk and David Perron each scored power-play goals. Goaltender Anton Forsberg managed 21 saves in a game where the Senators twice relinquished a one-goal lead.
