Sabres Stun Capitals with Eight-Goal Outburst in Win

WASHINGTON — Alex Tuch and Tage Thompson each scored twice and the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Washington Capitals 8-5 on Sunday in an unexpected offensive explosion.

Ryan McLeod, Sam Lafferty, Jack Quinn, and Peyton Krebs also contributed goals for the Sabres, who have now won four out of their last five games, demonstrating a strong turnaround.

For the Capitals, Alex Ovechkin achieved a milestone, scoring his 890th career goal, bringing him within five goals of matching Wayne Gretzky`s all-time record. Jakob Chychrun scored twice, while Aliaksei Protas and Pierre-Luc Dubois each added a goal in a losing effort. This loss marks the third straight for the Capitals, their second such streak this season.

James Reimer was solid in net for the Sabres, securing his fourth consecutive win by stopping 24 of 29 shots, improving his record to 13-5-6 on the season.

On the other side, Logan Thompson faced a tougher night, allowing 7 goals on 22 shots. He was replaced in the game and took the loss, his record falling to 31-5-6.
