Brothers Luke and Brayden Schenn are about to experience a first in their careers.
While they were teammates in the playoffs with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2014, this upcoming series marks the first time Luke and Brayden will face off against each other in opposing teams during the playoffs.
The St. Louis Blues and Winnipeg Jets playoff matchup was confirmed on Tuesday after the Blues secured a wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Brayden Schenn shared his thoughts on competing against his brother in this unique situation.
`It`s definitely unusual,` Brayden said, as reported by Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic, following the Blues` victory over the Utah Hockey Club. `Considering all the teams in the league and where Luke started the season, it`s unexpected that we`re now facing Winnipeg in the playoffs.`
Luke Schenn joined the Jets at the trade deadline on March 7, arriving from the Pittsburgh Penguins, just days after being traded to Pittsburgh from the Nashville Predators. This season, the veteran defenseman has recorded one goal and six assists in 75 games.
Brayden Schenn, captain of the Blues, was also involved in trade rumors leading up to the deadline, but he remained with St. Louis. The center has contributed 50 points in 82 games this season.
This playoff appearance is the Blues` first since 2022. Meanwhile, the Jets, who won the Presidents` Trophy, are in the post-season for the third consecutive year, seeking their first series win since 2021.
