Senators Beat Devils 3-2 with Strong Second Period

NEWARK, N.J. — In a Saturday night matchup, David Perron`s power-play goal highlighted a three-goal surge in the second period for Ottawa, as the Senators secured a 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils.

Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson also contributed goals for the Senators, who have been on a hot streak, winning seven of their last nine games. Goaltender Linus Ullmark was solid in net, stopping 25 shots.

For the Devils, Nico Hischier and Erik Haula found the back of the net, but it wasn`t enough to overcome Ottawa. The Devils have been struggling recently, losing three of their last four contests. Jake Allen made 16 saves in the loss.

Tkachuk opened the scoring for Ottawa in the second period at 4:05, netting his 28th goal of the season. Just 33 seconds later, Batherson extended the lead with his 20th, putting the Senators up 2-0.

Hischier responded for New Jersey with a power-play goal at 7:13, his 30th of the year, also prolonging his point streak to six games.

However, Ottawa quickly regained their two-goal advantage when Perron scored his sixth goal of the season at 8:44 of the second period.

Late in the third period, Haula narrowed the gap to one goal with 23 seconds remaining, scoring his eighth of the season.

Despite a frantic push in the final seconds, the Devils couldn`t find the equalizer, as Ullmark and defenseman Jake Sanderson held strong to secure the Senators` win.
