Former world champion Vyacheslav Senchenko has shared his perspective on the departure from boxing of his renowned compatriot, Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Senchenko stated that Lomachenko`s choice to retire is “very unexpected” for him personally. He admitted he was anticipating more fights from Lomachenko, specifically potential unification bouts, considering Lomachenko`s status as a world champion capable of consolidating titles. The fact that he retired while still holding a world championship belt was particularly surprising to Senchenko. He praised Lomachenko`s career as “very bright” and filled with numerous significant fights. When asked if Lomachenko had achieved everything, Senchenko mused, “Probably yes. He was a world champion in multiple weight classes.” He suggested that perhaps the only remaining unfulfilled aspiration for Lomachenko might have been to become the undisputed champion, a goal he didn`t manage to reach. Nevertheless, Senchenko concluded that overall, it was a “bright career, bright fights, titles,” adding, “I think such a career is only a dream for many.”
It is recalled that Vasiliy Lomachenko officially announced his retirement on June 5th.
