The San Jose Sharks have signed forward Egor Afanasyev to a one-year contract worth $800,000. The team announced the deal on Monday, bringing the player back after he spent the 2024-25 season in the KHL with CSKA Moscow.
Sharks general manager Mike Grier commented on the signing, stating, “Egor brings a combination of size and skill to our forward group. We are excited to bring him into our organization as he continues his growth in the North American game.”
Before his season in the KHL, Afanasyev spent three years within the Nashville Predators organization, playing for both their NHL and AHL teams. During his time with the Predators, the 24-year-old Russian winger appeared in 19 NHL games across two seasons, recording one goal and averaging just over 11 minutes of ice time.
He had a productive 2023-24 season in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals, tallying 27 goals and 27 assists in 56 regular-season games.
In his recent 2024-25 KHL season with CSKA Moscow, Afanasyev registered seven goals and 14 assists in 53 games.
He was originally a second-round pick (45th overall) by Nashville in the 2019 NHL Draft. Prior to turning pro, he played for the OHL`s Windsor Spitfires in 2019-20 and was loaned to CSKA Moscow for the 2020-21 season.
The Sharks acquired Afanasyev from the Predators in June 2024, sending forward Ozzy Wiesblatt the other way.
