The St. Louis Blues have made a move to solidify their goaltending position by signing backup netminder Joel Hofer to a two-year contract extension. The agreement, which was officially announced on Saturday, carries a total value of $6.8 million, resulting in an average annual value (AAV) of $3.4 million.
In their announcement on X (formerly Twitter), the Blues highlighted that this extension means Hofer will not be vulnerable to potential offer sheets. This appears to be a reference to the team`s notable strategy in the previous offseason, where they extended offer sheets to Edmonton Oilers players Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg, both of whom became important contributors to St. Louis`s recent playoff appearance.
Hofer, currently 24 years old, participated in 31 games for the Blues during the 2024-25 season. He concluded the season with a solid 16-8 record, complemented by a .904 save percentage and a 2.64 goals-against average. He also recorded one shutout during his time on the ice.
A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Hofer was originally drafted by the St. Louis organization as the 107th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
