Heiskanen rejoined the team for the first time in three and a half months on Tuesday evening. He wasted no time making an impact, recording an assist in the Stars` 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets. This win positioned Dallas with a strong 3-1 series lead in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Coach Pete DeBoer expressed satisfaction with Heiskanen`s performance, stating, “I thought it was a perfect night.” DeBoer highlighted Heiskanen`s 15 minutes of ice time and a crucial play during the power play, noting his composure and skill with the puck. Despite the temptation to give him more ice time, DeBoer said they managed it well. Following the game, Heiskanen reported feeling good, leading DeBoer to conclude, “So, mission accomplished.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Heiskanen was officially activated from the long-term injured reserve list and participated in an optional morning skate. Fans showed their excitement for his return by cheering loudly when he was among the initial group of players on the ice for pre-game warmups. He was subsequently named to the starting lineup.
Heiskanen himself reflected on getting back into the game. He aimed to “Just try to be smart, play short shifts and make simple plays at the beginning there and just try to be smart and handle the pressure well.” He acknowledged the significant time elapsed since his last game but emphasized how enjoyable it was to be back, adding that his teammates provided great support.
