Steven Lorentz plays hero as Maple Leafs squeak by Ducks

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Toronto Maple Leafs secured a victory against the Anaheim Ducks, showcasing a formula that might be crucial for their playoff aspirations: a blend of robust goaltending, dedicated shot blocking, and impactful offensive plays, highlighted by an unexpected hero.

This winning combination was evident in Sunday’s 3-2 triumph in Orange County. Steven Lorentz emerged as the key player, propelling the Atlantic Division-leading Maple Leafs to a win that capped off a successful California road trip where they earned five out of six possible points.

Despite facing a spirited Ducks team, eager to prove themselves, the Maple Leafs managed to hold their ground. The Ducks, though outshooting (30-23), out-attempting (76-55), and out-chancing (36-32) the Maple Leafs, couldn`t overcome Lorentz`s crucial goal. His skillful deflection of a David Kämpf shot found its way past Ducks` goalie Lukas Dostal late in the third period, securing the narrow victory.

For Lorentz, it was his seventh goal of the season and an impressive fourth game-winning goal.

“I didn’t realize it was my fourth game-winner, that’s great to hear,” Lorentz commented, known for his positive attitude. Reflecting on the game, he added, “I’ve been in Anaheim’s position before, on teams not thrilled with their standing but still competing hard. We knew they would bring a strong game, and I felt we battled effectively, though we had some lapses we’ll review. Ultimately, we’re pleased to get the win.”
