Stuttgart Draw: World’s Best Tennis Players Headline Strong Field

The draw for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart was revealed on Sunday, showcasing a high-caliber lineup. Eleven of the world`s top 20 players are set to compete for the prestigious WTA 500 title on indoor clay at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, marking the start of the European clay-court season.

The champion in singles will be awarded €142,610, 500 ranking points, and a Porsche Macan Turbo, a highly sought-after prize on the tour.

Main draw matches are scheduled to begin on Monday, April 14, and will culminate with the singles final on Monday, April 21. Please note that there will be no matches on Friday, April 18, due to Good Friday.

The top four seeded players, who also hold the top four positions in the PIF WTA Rankings, will receive a bye in the first round.

Draw Highlights

First Quarter

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka is the top seed in this section. She is aiming for her first Stuttgart title after finishing as runner-up for the past three years (2021-2023). Following her first-round bye, Sabalenka will play either Anastasia Potapova or Clara Tauson in the second round. If the seedings hold, a quarterfinal match against No. 8 seed Diana Shnaider is expected.

Second Quarter

No. 4 seed Coco Gauff leads the second quarter. She awaits the winner of the match between Danielle Collins and wildcard Tatjana Maria in her opening match. This quarter includes all four German wildcards. No. 5 seed Jasmine Paolini is positioned at the opposite end of this quarter and could potentially face German wildcards in her first two matches. A second-round encounter between Paolini and 2017 champion Laura Siegemund is a possibility.

Third Quarter

If seedings are maintained, the third quarter could feature a quarterfinal showdown between two of the most successful players this year: No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula and No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva. Pegula arrives in Stuttgart fresh off winning the first clay-court WTA 500 title of the season in Charleston. She currently leads the WTA Tour in main-draw match wins this year with 25. However, 17-year-old Andreeva is close behind in victories, having already secured 20 match wins this season, boosted by her back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells.

Fourth Quarter

No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek is placed at the bottom of the draw. Swiatek has a strong 10-1 record in Stuttgart, having won the title in 2022 and 2023. Her perfect streak was broken by Elena Rybakina in the semifinals last year. If Swiatek reaches the quarterfinals, she might face No. 7 seed Emma Navarro. Another potential opponent for Swiatek in the quarterfinals is former Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko, who holds a 5-0 head-to-head record against Swiatek.
