The official anthem of FC Barcelona, known as `Cant del Barça` (meaning `Barça Song` in Catalan), was created in 1974 to commemorate the club`s 75th anniversary. The lyrics were penned by Jaume Picas and Josep M. Espinàs, while Manuel Valls Gorina composed the music.
The anthem debuted on November 27, 1974, during a match against the East Germany national team, performed by a large chorus of 3,500 voices under the direction of Oriol Martorell. Later, club president Joan Laporta championed displaying the lyrics on the stadium screens to encourage fan participation.
`Cant del Barça` beautifully captures the club`s spirit of unity and inclusivity, with famous lines emphasizing that supporters from diverse backgrounds are united by a single flag.
