TJ Brodie Clears Waivers, Opening Up Potential Blackhawks Buyout

Defenseman TJ Brodie has cleared waivers, a move that gives the Chicago Blackhawks the option to buy out the remainder of his contract. This development was confirmed by Sportsnet.

Brodie, 35 years old, originally joined the Blackhawks on a two-year contract valued at $7.5 million during the free agency period last off-season.

According to information from PuckPedia, if the Blackhawks proceed with a buyout, the resulting salary cap hit would be approximately $3.23 million for the 2025-26 NHL season. This figure would drop significantly to around $258,000 for the 2026-27 season.

In his recent season, Brodie participated in 54 games, where he registered two goals and accumulated 10 points. His average ice time per game during this period was 15 minutes and 37 seconds.

Over his 15 seasons in the National Hockey League, having played for the Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, and now the Blackhawks, the Chatham, Ontario native has scored a total of 58 goals and recorded 358 points across 962 career regular-season contests.

The window during which NHL teams are permitted to execute player contract buyouts is currently open and will remain so until June 30.
