UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has offered his thoughts on why his potential fight against undisputed champion Jon Jones has not yet been officially announced.
According to Aspinall, he feels unable to do anything to accelerate the process. He believes the primary reason for the delay boils down to financial considerations on Jon Jones`s side. “Personally, I can’t do anything to speed up this process,” Aspinall stated. “I think it all comes down to money and all the delays are on Jones’s side. I will fight where he wants and when he wants. But it all comes down to money, I think.”
Aspinall further elaborated on his perspective, highlighting his own standing in the division. “I am the most dangerous guy in the UFC if you look at the statistics,” he claimed. He suspects Jones is fully aware of the challenge posed by fighting someone of his size with established career achievements, suggesting this is the basis for Jones seeking significant compensation. “Putting him against a guy my size who already has achievements in his career – I think Jones is smart and understands everything, that’s why he wants compensation,” Aspinall was quoted as saying.
It`s worth noting that Aspinall has been inactive since July of last year, when he secured a swift knockout victory over Curtis Blaydes.
