As the National Hockey League`s buyout window approaches its deadline, two forwards have been placed on waivers.
Reports indicate that Joe Veleno and Conor Sheary have been placed on waivers, a development first reported on Sunday.
Sheary`s contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning had one year remaining, carrying a $2 million cap hit. The 33-year-old player participated in only five games during the recent season. His placement on waivers was necessary for Tampa Bay to manage their salary cap.
Veleno also had one year remaining on the two-year contract worth $4.55 million he signed last off-season. He was acquired by the Seattle Kraken in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks involving Andre Burakovsky.
During the previous season, Veleno recorded eight goals and 17 points over 74 games split between the Detroit Red Wings and the Blackhawks.
