Two-time champion Svitolina among Strasbourg main-draw entries

The main entry list for the Internationaux de Strasbourg tournament was revealed this week. The event, which is the final WTA 500 clay-court tournament of the season, is set to feature seven players ranked in the Top 20 of the PIF WTA Rankings.

Among the notable participants is two-time winner Elina Svitolina. She aims to become the first player to claim three titles in Strasbourg since Anabel Medina Garrigues achieved the feat in 2008.

The Ukrainian player, Svitolina, has been in strong form on clay this year, winning her initial nine matches on the surface. Recently, she reached the semifinals of the Madrid Open, marking her first WTA 1000 semifinal appearance since 2021.

Svitolina`s victory in Strasbourg in 2023 was her first WTA title upon returning from maternity leave earlier that year. She previously won the tournament in 2020.

Also included in the main draw is Barbora Krejcikova, the current Wimbledon champion and a former Strasbourg winner. Krejcikova secured her maiden WTA singles title in Strasbourg in 2021, just two weeks before winning her first Grand Slam singles title at Roland Garros that same year.

The list of entries features Top 10 players Paula Badosa (World No. 9) and Emma Navarro (World No. 10). Joining Svitolina and Krejcikova from the Top 20 are Daria Kasatkina, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Liudmila Samsonova.

Former Grand Slam champions and finalists are also set to compete, including 2020 Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin, and former Grand Slam finalists Danielle Collins and Leylah Fernandez.

Information regarding wild cards for the tournament will be released closer to the start date. The main draw matches in Strasbourg are scheduled to commence on Sunday, May 18.
