SANDY, Utah — The Utah Hockey Club announced Monday that its new practice and training facility will officially open for team use on September 1st.
Spanning 115,780 square feet, the facility is located on the southeast side of a shopping center in Sandy and will feature two NHL-standard ice rinks. It will also house advanced training, medical, and dining amenities, as well as team locker rooms.
Constructing a dedicated practice facility was a top priority for Utah owner Ryan Smith when bringing an NHL team to Utah. This season, the team has been temporarily using the Utah Olympic Oval, primarily designed for speed skating, for practices.
“To be competitive in the NHL, you need a dedicated space for players to practice, recover, and call home,” Smith stated. “While the Oval served as a temporary solution, this new facility is specifically designed for our team`s needs.”
Utah team players were actively involved in the design process of the practice facility, providing input on everything from dining areas to locker rooms. Many of their suggestions have been incorporated into the final design.
“We aimed to involve them as much as possible in every aspect of this project,” Smith commented.
The Utah practice facility will also open its doors to the public in January 2026. It will include event spaces, eight community locker rooms, equipment rental services, and a team store. The ice rinks will be available for public skating when the team is not using them.
