The clay-court season is now in full swing after the WTA 500 Credit One Charleston Open and the WTA 250 Copa Colsanitas Zurich concluded with exciting finishes on Sunday.
Following the events in the Americas, the clay-court circuit will move to Europe for tournaments in Stuttgart, Madrid, and Rome, after the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers next week.
Let`s回顾 some key moments from the first week of the 2025 Hologic WTA Tour season on clay:
Honor Roll
Here are the standout players of the week:
Jessica Pegula: The player from Buffalo, New York, has now secured titles on all court surfaces. Pegula claimed her first clay-court title by defeating fellow American Sofia Kenin in the Charleston final. She is set to overtake Coco Gauff as World No. 3 and U.S. No. 1 on Monday.
`I believe my determination was key to winning many matches this week,` Pegula commented after her victory. `Especially on clay, you need to have a certain level of grit and resilience.`
`Winning crucial points or a tough game can really shift the momentum in a set or a match, and I felt I managed to do that several times this week. It`s not always the case every week, but when you can achieve it and win the title, you appreciate those moments.`
Camila Osorio: Colombia`s top-ranked player consistently delights her home crowd in Bogota, and she now boasts a hat-trick of home titles. Osorio won the Copa Colsanitas Zurich for the third time this week, adding to her previous victories in 2021 and last season.
Katarzyna Kawa: The 32-year-old Polish player, who was ranked outside the Top 300 just four months prior, has made a remarkable turnaround since the end of last year. This week in Bogota, she reached her second WTA singles final. Her first WTA final was nearly six years ago in Jurmala, and she qualified for both.
Julieta Pareja: Another promising teenager is emerging. American Pareja, who just turned 16 in February, debuted in the WTA main draw in Bogota and became the youngest tour-level semifinalist since Coco Gauff`s Linz title in 2019 at age 15.
