What is Scott McTominay’s Nickname at Napoli? Meaning of McFratm Explained

Scott McTominay`s status as a cult hero in Naples has reached new heights, marked by a nickname that blends his Scottish surname with Neapolitan slang.

Having spent almost his entire career at Manchester United, joining the club at just five years old, McTominay moved to Napoli in August. He quickly proved to be exactly the midfield enforcer manager Antonio Conte desired. Standing at 6ft 4in (1.93 meters), the Scotland international provides immense physical strength and aerial ability, frequently contributing goals, often powerful headers, making him a difficult opponent for defenders.

The 28-year-old Scottish midfield dynamo has also quickly become a fan favourite. He hasn`t just impressed; he`s become a vital player for Napoli.

“McTominay fever” has swept through Naples like a Vesuvio eruption. From supporters wearing kilts in the stands to a local pizzeria creating a tribute pizza, it`s clear the Scot is enjoying the “sweet life” (la dolce vita).

And now? McTominay has earned a quirky new nickname, a clever fusion of Scottish heritage and Neapolitan slang. It`s safe to say that “McTominay Mania” is well and truly alive in Campania. What is Scott McTominay`s nickname at Napoli?

During a post-match interview on the pitch with DAZN, Scott McTominay was asked to choose his favourite nickname from a list: MacGyver, McTerminator, McFratm, or “apribottiglie” – which means “bottle opener,” referencing his tendency to break deadlocks for Napoli.

Without hesitation, McTominay chose McFratm – a combination of his name and the Neapolitan slang term “fratm,” meaning “brother.”

“Pasquale Mazzocchi would say Fratm, so McFratm,” McTominay stated, referring to the Napoli full-back credited with creating the nickname.

Essentially, McFratm translates to “McBro,” and it has rapidly become the preferred nickname in Naples, especially as the tall Scot seems proud to embrace it.

Naturally, a few other monikers have been suggested in Naples for their star player: McTerminator for his powerful headers and strong tackles, while in the UK, he is still affectionately known as McSauce. However, based on his current performances, McFratm might be the nickname that endures, a fitting title for a midfield enforcer who has become like a brother, commanding the central area of the pitch.
