Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker recently offered his perspective on a potential future fight between Jack Della Maddalena and lightweight king Islam Makhachev.
Whittaker stated that he believes Makhachev would likely utilize tactics similar to those employed by Belal Muhammad, but execute them with significantly greater proficiency. However, he posed a critical question: “If Volkanovski managed to land strikes on Islam, then Della Maddalena certainly possesses the capability to do the same.”
He further analyzed Jack`s style, noting, “Jack favors fighting at close range, which unfortunately leaves him susceptible to takedowns.” Whittaker highlighted Makhachev`s clear advantage in this area compared to Muhammad. Adding to Islam`s strengths, Whittaker mentioned his superior tactical awareness. Concluding his assessment, Whittaker admitted the difficulty in predicting the outcome, stating, “What does all this ultimately mean for the fight? I honestly don’t have a definitive answer.”
