Winnipeg fans reacted creatively when a Jets goal was disallowed during Game 5 against the Dallas Stars on Thursday night.
Mark Scheifele scored his second goal late in the second period, but it was immediately waved off. The reason was that Scheifele had guided the puck into the net with his hand, not his stick.
Although the call seemed straightforward, the Winnipeg crowd responded loudly as the period wound down, chanting, “should have kicked it”.
This chant referred back to a debated play in Game 3 of the same series. In that instance, Alex Petrovic of the Stars scored what looked like a kicked goal. Following a lengthy review, the NHL allowed the goal, ruling that Connor Hellebuyck had `propelled` the puck into the net.
It was clear that Jets fans were still upset about that earlier goal and hadn`t moved past it.
