Jean and Kaba: Two French Players Set to Depart Lecce

August 25, 2026Pablo Navarro1 мин

Beyond the incoming transfers needed to finalize the squad for Eusebio Di Francesco, Lecce must also continue the process of trimming players who are not part of the technical project. The call-ups for the away match against Venezia, with a limited selection available, served as an unequivocal sign. Central defender Gaby Jean and midfielder Mohammed Kaba, excluded from the squad list for the league debut, are on their way out.

Paths

Jean, 26 years old, has a contract that runs until the end of the season with an option to extend for another two years. In the 2024/2025 season, Gaspar's injury opened the door for him to start alongside Baschirotto. He made 14 starts and had 19 appearances in total that season, which was interrupted by the cruciate ligament rupture he suffered in the opening minutes of Juventus-Lecce 2-1, a match in which Tiago Gabriel debuted in Serie A, coming on as his replacement. Last year, he had an important starting role at the Bentegodi in Verona (0-0) and played a total of 191 minutes across 7 appearances.

Kaba returned to Lecce after the unsuccessful relegation fight with Nantes. Also nearing the end of his contract, he is looking to find a team in France after not being impressed with Konyaspor in Turkey.

Others

They are joined by another Frenchman. Christ-Owen Kouassi, who has been in the "second group" since the beginning of pre-season training, is registered with Lecce after his loan spell at Laval last season. Other players in that group still under contract with Lecce include Borbei, Pehlivanov, Ubani, Scott, and Esposito.
