Harry Kane Crowned Germany's Footballer of the Year After Stellar Season
Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been honored as the men's Player of the Year in Germany, capping off a remarkable, record-breaking season with the Bundesliga champions.
Adding to the club's success, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany was recognized as the trainer of the year. The Munich club secured a clean sweep as Germany defender Giulia Gwinn claimed the women's Player of the Year award.
"A Bayern double — never before have the men's and women's Player of the Year awards gone to the same club. Congratulations to Harry and Giulia, as well as our coach Vincent," said Bayern president Herbert Hainer. "When men's and women's football makes history together, then that's Bayern, making a mark. We're proud of this result."
Harry Kane's Exceptional Season Recognized
Kane secured the prestigious title with 272 votes from the Association of German Sports Journalists, significantly outperforming Bayern teammate Michael Olise, who received 203 votes. Stuttgart and Germany striker Deniz Undav finished third with 61 votes.
The England captain delivered an outstanding performance for Bayern last season, scoring an impressive 61 goals in 51 competitive appearances. Kane described it as "the best season of my career so far" after also winning the European Golden Shoe for the second time.
His club form was mirrored by a strong World Cup campaign with England, where he netted six goals and became the nation's all-time leading scorer in the tournament. The 33-year-old also earned his second European Golden Shoe for being the continent's top league goalscorer.
Former Bayern striker Luca Toni believes Kane is deserving of even greater individual accolades, suggesting he should win the Ballon d'Or.
Kompany and Gwinn Also Honored
Vincent Kompany emerged as the clear winner in the coaching category, garnering 314 votes following his success in guiding Bayern to a league and cup double. Freiburg coach Julian Schuster, the previous year's winner, came second with 87 votes, followed by Stuttgart's Sebastian Hoeneß with 53 votes.
Schuster lauded Kompany's coaching abilities, noting his positive impact on both the team and individual players.
Giulia Gwinn, a defender for Bayern Munich, claimed the women's award outright, having shared the honor with goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger the previous year. Gwinn expressed her gratitude, stating, "This is an honor and a validation of my journey."
The 27-year-old received 106 votes, narrowly edging out her teammate Klara Bühl, who secured 94 votes.
