Aaron McKenna's Championship Ambitions: A Fierce Encounter Awaits

Despite his imposing physique, which he believes could one day carry him to the heavyweight division, Aaron McKenna successfully made weight for his upcoming fight.

On Saturday, live on Sky Sports from the 3Arena in Dublin, McKenna will challenge Etinosa Oliha for the IBF championship. Both boxers comfortably met the middleweight limit, with McKenna at 159.6 lbs and Oliha at 159.1 lbs.

McKenna demonstrated his world-class potential with a remarkable victory over Liam Smith, a former WBO 154 lbs champion, last year. He aims to reaffirm his quality against Oliha and become Ireland's first middleweight world champion since Andy Lee.

"My last fight against Smith definitely opened a lot of eyes because of the way I won, it was a really dominant performance in my favor," McKenna shared with Sky Sports.

"Going into that fight, I was the underdog, and not many people gave me a chance. But I knew it was my moment to truly show the world how good a boxer I am. Many didn't expect me to have that style, but I've been saying for years how skilled I am."

"Now is another opportunity to truly shine again."

McKenna is resolute in his ambition to dominate the division. "Once I become world champion, I'm going to take over," he declared.

"I want to clear out the division. The 160 lbs division is ripe for the taking. My goal is to become undisputed and then a multiple-weight world champion.

"I seek the biggest and best fights, targeting undefeated opponents or reigning world champions to prove I'm the best in the world. If I can't secure bouts with the champions at 160 lbs, I'll move up to 168 lbs; it makes no difference to me. But first, I'll handle business on Saturday."

In another notable bout on the undercard, Callum Walsh will face Tyler Denny in what promises to be a challenging encounter. Walsh, who has primarily competed at super-welterweight, successfully made the 160 lbs limit, as did Denny at 159.7 lbs.

Light-heavyweight talent Joe Ward is set to make a significant impact in the professional ranks against the hard-hitting, undefeated contender Artjom Kasparian. Both fighters successfully weighed in, with Ward at 174.08 lbs and Kasparian at 174.2 lbs.

"It's going to be unbelievable," Walsh told Sky Sports. "It's going to be a fantastic card from start to finish.

"The atmosphere will be electric. Quick fights, good fights back-to-back, maintaining the excitement, and by the time I step out, the energy will be incredible."

"We can continue to demonstrate that Ireland produces some of the best fighters globally."

The full undercard also saw fighters comfortably make weight. Scottish prospect Sam Hickey, in a contracted 162 lbs bout with Brad Axe, tipped the scales at 161.3 lbs, matching his opponent.

Louis Greene weighed in at 159.4 lbs, and Daniel Bucuic at 158.4 lbs for their middleweight contest.

The undercard stream will commence at 5 pm on Saturday, with American cruiserweight prospect Patrick O'Connor (200.5 lbs), who possesses Irish heritage, opening the event against Spain's Juan Manuel Moriel (191 lbs 2 oz).

Derry's Connor Coyle (158.8 lbs) aims to enter the top middleweight conversation in his bout against American Mark Beuke (159.6 lbs).

Stevie McKenna (159.7 lbs) will compete prior to his brother's world title fight. He is scheduled to face former sparring partner Owen O'Neill (158.5 lbs).

All fighters experienced the atmosphere of the 3Arena during the ceremonial weigh-in on Friday, which served as a preview of the excitement to come on fight night.

"It should be absolutely crazy on Saturday night," White commented. "The matchmaking is incredible, and on paper, you know how a fight looks, how it feels, and how it should play out. Hopefully, that's how it unfolds when they're in there. That's what we have for Saturday night."
