Trial for Joshua's Driver in Fatal Crash Adjourned
The court proceedings for Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the car accident that injured boxer Anthony Joshua and claimed the lives of two members of his team, have been postponed until November 17.
The case, which commenced in January at a magistrate court in Ogun State, was rescheduled from September 10 as the charges stemming from the fatal collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway continue to be addressed.
The deceased were identified as Joshua's personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.
Kayode is facing multiple charges, including dangerous driving resulting in death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and operating a vehicle without a valid national driver's license.
The 46-year-old defendant has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Prosecutors contend that Kayode was attempting to overtake another vehicle when the SUV carrying Joshua and his staff collided with a stationary truck.
Anthony Joshua, a two-time world heavyweight champion, sustained injuries in the accident that occurred last December but has since recovered and been discharged from the hospital.
The group was en route to visit Joshua's father in Ogun State at the time of the crash.
Authorities previously informed the court that both vehicles had been removed from the accident site by the time investigators arrived.
