Chelsea in Negotiations for Atalanta Defender Ahanor

August 27, 2026Diego Herrera2 мин

Chelsea is reportedly in discussions to sign Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor. The London club had previously shown interest in the 18-year-old Italian when they secured the transfer of right-back Marco Palestra from the same Serie A team in July.

According to sources, Atalanta is amenable to selling Ahanor, provided their valuation of 40 million euros (approximately £34.3 million) is met.

Ahanor, who primarily operates as a left-back, joined Atalanta from Genoa last summer on a three-year contract. The reported transfer fee was 16 million euros, with an additional 4 million euros in potential add-ons.

Last season, he made 28 appearances in Serie A for Atalanta, cementing his position as a regular starter for the Italian outfit. He also made his Champions League debut in a 2-1 victory against Club Brugge in September.

In May, Ahanor received a call-up to the Italian national team for friendly matches against Luxembourg and Greece.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has been actively building his squad since his arrival at Stamford Bridge in July. Recent acquisitions include England midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a club-record fee of £117 million, as well as experienced Premier League players Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson.

Chelsea is scheduled to play Brighton at home in the Premier League on Sunday. This follows their opening-day victory against Fulham, which ended 3-2 on Monday.
