Boston Bruins Secure Top Prospect James Hagens with AHL Tryout Deal
The Boston Bruins have announced the signing of promising forward James Hagens to an amateur tryout agreement with their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins.
General Manager Don Sweeney expressed enthusiasm about the move, stating, "We’re very excited to have James join the Bruins organization and take this next step. James is an important part of our future, and this is a great opportunity for him to get immediate experience at the professional level in Providence and continue his development."
Hagens, a 19-year-old talent, was a significant acquisition for the Bruins, selected seventh overall in the 2025 NHL Draft. This past season, as a sophomore at Boston College, he demonstrated his offensive prowess by leading the Hockey East conference in scoring with an impressive 47 points (23 goals, 24 assists) across 34 games. His rookie campaign in 2024-25 also saw him named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, having registered 37 points in 37 appearances.
Originating from Hauppauge, N.Y., Hagens boasts a strong international resume, having represented the United States in multiple IIHF tournaments. He participated in two IIHF World Junior Championship tournaments (in 2025 and 2026) and two IIHF U-18 Men’s World Championships (in 2023 and 2024), securing gold medals at both the 2025 World Juniors and the 2023 U-18 events.
